Digital Marketing, it’s the future.

It is everywhere; it is everywhere if you are in it or out of it! And we love it, well most of us anyway. digital marketing ball

Today we attended an AIMIA event, “The Future of Digital Advertising”. It was fantastic; the speakers were extremely knowledgeable and gave good engaging presentations. They have to right? It is all about engagement, keeping your followers, tribe, customers, friends, networks and anyone else you know engaged. As I see it, we need to engage on a different level now. It is a digital level. We converse through text, messenger, messages on walls, Instagramming, hashtagging, liking, sharing, status updates, commenting, photos, videos, on line forums, groups – basically anything but talking in person.

I have always been an advocate for real person engagement, networking and actually talking to people, in person. It is and will always a better way to converse in my eyes. In saying that, I also love digital. We now have the opportunity to get our point across and advertise in a completely different way and it is limitless it seems.   It’s a balance between talking and typing to each other.  I’m not sure we have the mix right yet, but this is all a part of the digital landscape. 

One thing I heard this morning was ‘collect relationships, not transactions’. This is perfect. We still need to create relationships with our audience; it is just in a different form.

The overall message from the presentations today was that no one knows the future of digital advertising. How could we? It has come so far in such a small amount of time and is forever evolving. We do need to keep tabs on it however. As a business, you need to have a sound strategy in place. You need to know what you want from your digital presence. Why you are doing it, how it will benefit you and your audience and keep it consistent and stay ahead.

The digital space is an exciting one; it is a place for limitless creativity and fun and definitely ties in with traditional marketing on many levels.

I don’t know what the future of digital marketing is, but I know there is one and we want to be part of it.
